As John the Baptist cried in the Wilderness "Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand"

As Nehemiah looked over the collapsed walls of Jerusalem and believed God had called him to rebuild them.

As Amos warned the nations

Someone must warn the Nations today

Unqualified freedom in any area of human life is deadly. In government it is anarchy, in domestic life, free love and in religion, antinomianism. The freest cells in the body are cancer cells, but they kill the organism where they grow—Quotable AW Tozer

Daily Devotion

 Adultry Cost of Committing

Proverbs 6:32-35 (KJV)
32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

They lose their good sense (v. 32).

King David was a brilliant strategist on the battlefield and a wise ruler on the throne, but he lost his common sense when he gazed at his neighbor’s wife and lusted for her (2 Sam. 12). He was sure he could get away with his sin, but common sense would have told him he was wrong. Every stratagem David used to implicate Bathsheba’s husband failed, so he ended up having the man killed. Surely David knew that we reap what we sow, and reap he did, right in the harvest field of his own family. Just about every day I meet a family that is ciaos. Most of the problems are because the parents are failing God and failing one another. Lora Bush the other day agreed to homosexuals living together as a family. God did not intend for two people of the same sex to have a family. We can look at Lot’s wife and see what Sodom and Gomorrah did to her. Gen Chapter 18-19..

Given the secretive nature of infidelity, exact figures about cheating and extra-marital affairs are nearly impossible to establish. But, listed below are some of the most well-supported facts about cheating. All cited sources can be found on our reference page.

·         It is estimated that roughly 30 to 60% of all married individuals (in the United States) will engage in infidelity at some point during their marriage (see, Buss and Shackelford for review of this research). And these numbers are probably on the conservative side, when you consider that close to half of all marriages end in divorce (people are more likely to stray as relationships fall apart; also see, who is likely to cheat).

·         Research consistently shows that 2 to 3% of all children are the product of infidelity (see, Anderson). And most of these children are unknowingly raised by men who are not their biological fathers. DNA testing is finally making it easy for people to check the paternity of their children (see, paternity issues).

·         Infidelity is becoming more common among people under 30. Many experts believe this increase in cheating is due to greater opportunity (time spent away from a spouse) and young people developing the habit of having multiple sexual partners before they get married ( Wall Street Journal).

They lose their peace (vv. 33-35).

The angry husband will use every means possible to avenge himself, for a loving husband would rather that his neighbor steal his money than steal his wife.

“Song of Songs 8:6 (KJV) 6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.  The offender will have no peace, and no amount of money he offers the husband will be accepted. The adulterer loses his reputation in the community and might actually suffer physical punishment. Of course, he and the woman were supposed to be stoned to death (Lev. 20:10; Deut. 22:22), but we’re not sure this penalty was always exacted. In today’s society, if a person has enough money and “clout,” he or she might be able to survive an adulterous scandal, but life is still never quite the same. Whether in this life or the next, sinners can be sure that their sins will find them out. Indulging in sexual sin is always a losing proposition.

·         Some cultures have adopted extreme measures to combat infidelity: female circumcision, allowing only limited contact between the sexes, and death as a punishment. While many other cultures view infidelity as more of a nuance, not a serious marital problem.

·         Men are more likely to cheat than women. But, as women become more financially independent, women are starting to act more like men with respect to infidelity.

·         In many cases, infidelity never gets discovered.

·         Emotionally, it is possible to have feelings for more than one person at a time. Pragmatically, loving more than one person is difficult to do. This is why Jesus did not intend for man to have multiple wives.

·         As more and more women enter the work force, "office romances" are becoming more common. Spouses often spend more time with coworkers than with each other.

·         The internet, e-mail, and chat rooms are making it easier for people to engage in infidelity.

·         The initial decision to be unfaithful is rarely ever a rational choice; instead infidelity is usually driven by circumstances and one's emotions. In fact, most people are surprised by their own behavior at the start of an affair.

·         Emotional infidelity, compared to just physical infidelity, can inflict as much, if not more, hurt, pain and suffering. And to make matters worse, most infidelity involves both physical and emotional betrayal..

·         Unfortunately, many people find a more suitable mate (someone they love more than their spouse) after they are already married.

·         Biological evidence (i.e., research on biology and reproduction) indicates that long-term monogamy is difficult for humans to achieve - NOT impossible, but difficult (see, Barash and Lipton or the myth of monogamy - Salon.com).

·         Almost everyone admits to having fantasies that involve someone other than a spouse (see, Hicks and Leitenberg).

·         Jealousy is such a fundamental, universal emotion because infidelity has been a part of our human nature for a very long time

Statistic: Another Look at Fidelity Dr. Joyce Brothers (1990) claims that half of all wives have affairs. Shere Hite, in a controversial 1987 report asserts that three-fourths of all wives married more than five years have affairs. James Patterson and Peter Kim (1991) argue that 49 percent of married Americans consider having an affair, but only 31 percent actually do. Now, from the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, come new numbers to fuel the debate—surprising numbers that offer more hope for domestic stability. In five studies from 1988 to the present researchers at the Center found only about 15 percent of Americans have ever cheated on a spouse. They further discovered that, in a given year, only 3 to 4 percent of husbands and wives are unfaithful. —Reported by Marilyn Gardner in The Christian Science Monitor, 10/28/93, “To Verify,” Leadership. See: Exodus 20:14; Leviticus 18:20; 1 Corinthians 6:18

Forgiveness Is Better than Divorce We’ve made adultery grounds for divorce. In actuality it’s grounds for forgiveness. —Harold Ivan Smith, Leadership, Vol. 4, no.3. See: Matthew 19:8; Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13.
